Shorter guys are more successful in business, more driven, more compassionate, stay in relationships longer … so why do they experience such “short shrift” from society. In the clothing industry, he seems to be forgotten, getting the “short end of the stick” (no pun intended) when it comes to finding clothing in his size. As well, if a store has some “shorts” in stock, they are usually very basic styles. For this guy to get modern and fashionable looks, is a very frustrating experience (more on this topic in a moment).
There is an unfounded and biased view of men that are shorter, and the shorter they are, the worse it apparently gets. Getting hired in management tends to go a taller guy, as for some reason they are viewed as being more powerful. Perhaps this is a reason there are so many successful shorter men in the business world.
This leads us to the “short men syndrome” often called the “Napoleon Complex”, which basically states that because of ones diminutive stature, they feel inadequate. Perhaps this is so (if it is true) because society tends to equate confidence through physicality, which is associated with someone that is taller. However, it is said that because of a possible inferiority complex, the shorter guy tends to over compensate.
A lot of short men turn this “short thing” into a positive and are more driven. They become more assertive, more aggressive (in a good way), and try harder as a means of proving themselves. All this actually gives the short man an edge, as all their positive energy ends up making them better then most (especially those taller guys). Even Freud talks about their possible ego defense mechanism, providing a psychological drive to not only be better, but to be the best.
Trying harder, doing better, dressing smarter, has affected the shorter man in a very positive way. While there might still be more taller company vice presidents, a lot of the owners of these companies are short. CBT (cognitive behavioral theory) supports this, as not-so-tall guys, change apparent negative thoughts into positive affirmations, like “I am better”.
Contrary to all the jokes and prejudice, todays shorter guy does not think about his height as anything negative, in fact they embrace it, and their extra drive actually empowers them. They focus on their positive attributes, their good nature, their desire to be high achievers, and this is what makes this man, nothing short of amazing.
There have been many articles written, and television interviews produced, about women liking, dating and marrying shorter men. Many people think that women do not like to go out with a shorter men. There is perceived notions that taller men are more successful, that shorter men earn less, that society thinks short men have a chip on their shoulder and feel more inferior, but this is simply not true.
On the topic of dating, a lot of women are very impressed with shorter men. They feel if a short guy is dating a taller woman, he must be very secure with himself, and women love a guy that is more secure psychologically.
On an emotional front, shorter men tend to be more calm and don’t lose their temper as quickly as those that are taller. All these are valid reasons why women really like being in a relationship with shorter guys.
A hot topic that is often asked is, do short guys make better lovers! If this guy is more sensitive, caring, open and understanding, then it would make sense that he is.
Research has shown that short guys make better partners, too. A study conducted by two NYU sociologists found that men who are 5’7” or shorter, are 32 percent less likely to divorce there taller wives. The study also says they do more housework than taller guys and are more likely to bring home more money.
